The Telangana State Police Academy (erstwhile APPA) was established in the year, 1986 at CPL, Amberpet. It was shifted to the present campus in 1993. The Academy is spread over an area of 148 acres. (27 acres lost in ORR formation).The Academy was renamed as “Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy (RBVRR) A.P.Police Academy” in 2013 and later its name was changed as “RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy” from February 2015 due to re-organization of the State.
The RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy trains Police Officers of and above the rank of Sub-Inspectors including Gazetted Officers (DySsP), Forensic Scientists, Addl. /Asst. Public Prosecutors and Officers from other departments i.e., Customs & Excise, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Forest Range Officers from Telangana State and other States on request.The Academy also conducts In-service training like Mandatory courses, Training of Trainers courses, Orientation courses, Thematic courses, Conversion courses, Computer courses, Outdoor courses (PT, Weapon Training) Ministerial Staff courses and Seminars/Workshops on topical subjects.
More than 1 lakh trainees (Police and Non-Police) have undergone training in this Academy during the last 30 years.
To impart professional training of outstanding quality to frontline Police Executives and others connected with the criminal justice system to enable them to serve the community in consonance with law, understanding its expectations, and respecting the rights of the people for maintaining of peace, tranquility, safety, and security in the society and positioning the Academy as a “Center of Excellence” in the field of Police Training.
